Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Maria Melo on Feb 24 2022 at the age of 89.

Born July 31, 1932, Maria was the oldest of 3, was raised with her younger brother and sister in Portugal where she met and married her husband, Jose Pimentel De Melo and began her family. Maria, her husband and some of her children moved to Canada on November 9, 1980 and settled in the GTA. Maria was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved spending time with friends and  family. On warmer days, Maria could be found tending to her garden, her second greatest love following family.

Although a woman of few words, she was known by friends, family and community as compassionate, generous, humble, and  with a heart so large it radiated through her personality. She was always giving, always laughing, always loving, and would always encourage us to explore and pursue our own curiosity.

Maria, the backbone of our family is survived  and will be dearly missed by her 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

We must continue to maintain physical distancing, the wearing of masks, and may not allow more than 40 guests into the funeral home at any one time. Capacity limits will vary at locations such as a church or cemetery. Once the maximum limit has been reached, we will ask any additional guests to kindly wait outside in a physically-distanced line until there is room to enter safely.
