Obituary

God called upon Maria Lucas Garcia peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at the age of 81 at Runnymede Healthcare Centre in Toronto. She will be forever missed and cherished by her two daughters, Belinda Leitoguinho (David), and Fatima Medeiros (Jesse). Proud Grandmother to Emily and Marco Leitoguinho, and Lucas, Julia and Mattaeus Medeiros. Maria will always be remembered by her sister Adilia Garcia (David), and all of her living relatives including godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, sister and brother-in-law’s. She will be rejoined in heaven with her husband Manuel Santos Garcia. She will be held dear in the hearts of her family, relatives and many friends forever. Maria was well known for her generous spirit and eagerness to share stories of her life. She enjoyed travelling with her husband, daughters and grandchildren and even in her later years, she enjoyed exploring new places and spending time with those she loved dearly. She will be missed by those she touched over the years. She was always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need and was renowned for her endless ability to listen, and to give guidance to those who came through her door. Living an arduous life, her resilience and her positivity was fortified by her philosophy of "being happy with what you have and working hard for what you want.” A fierce strong woman, she dedicated herself in building a family business alongside her husband and two daughters which was her pride and joy. She was dedicated to her family and friends and loved nothing more than to be surrounded by loved ones, especially her grandchildren. Maria touched many lives. Her optimism, warmth, spirituality, compassion, and selflessness will be missed by her wide circle of extended family and friends. Her devotion and her firm belief in God ultimately gave her peace. Family and friends express our gratitude to the staff at Runnymede Healthcare Centre and St Joseph's Hospital in Toronto for their compassion and excellent care provided to our Mother in her final days.
