Obituary

Maria Melo, an inspiration of love and grace, departed this world on March 27, 2024, at the age of 83. She now reunites with her beloved husband, Antonio Melo, in the comforting embrace of heaven. Maria's legacy of love and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her, especially her beloved son John and daughter-in-law Sabrina Melo (Golfi). She was a spoiling grandmother to Maya and Malia, who will forever treasure her gentle guidance and unlimited affection. Maria’s beautiful connection through the pampering, decorating, and bonding with her daughter-in-law’s sister, Linda (Janicas) will be dearly missed, and Maria was very grateful for it. Throughout her life, Maria exemplified firm dedication and kindness, notably through her 35 years of service at Princess Margaret Hospital. Her selfless contributions touched countless lives, and her strong faith and radiant spirit illuminated the darkest of days, offering hope to all who crossed her path. Maria's presence extended far beyond her family and profession, building deep bonds with friends, relatives, and even the compassionate doctors and nurses at the Juravinski Hospital's third level, whose tireless efforts she held in high esteem.

To honour Maria's life and legacy, visitations will be held at the Cardinal Funeral Home Bathurst Chapel (366 Bathurst Street) on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Santa Cruz Catholic Church (140 Argyle Street, at Dovercourt Road), where prayers and memories will be shared in her honour. Following the mass, Maria will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (off Bayview Avenue, south of Highway 7), where she will find eternal peace.

Maria Melo's legacy of love, faith, and compassion will continue to shine brightly, a guiding light for all who were privileged to know her. Though she may have left this earth, her spirit will forever be in the hearts of those who were touched by her warmth and generosity.

Rest in peace, dear Maria, your memory will be cherished for all eternity.

She was a proud mother and grandmother to John, Sabrina, Maya and Malia’s company, Golfi Concrete and Drain ltd that devoted time and effort into fundraising for Mc Master Children’s Hospital Foundation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Golfi Friends and Family or McMaster Children's Hospital Foundation.
