Obituary

Was born February 21, 1926 in the village of Pyshkivci, in the Buchach region of Ternopil oblast, Ukraine. She was born to mother Pelahia and father Petro Makar. She was sister to Irene, Matrona and Michael and twin sister to Barbara. She married Michael Suchyj May 29, 1947 in Germany and arrived in Canada in 1949. She worked as a domestic at the South African Embassy in Ottawa, eventually moving to Toronto in 1951. Her son Bohdan was born in 1953 and daughter Irene in 1959. She was a parishioner of St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral for over 60 years. A mother and housewife, she worked for Loblaws and Rowntree’s Canada, was devoted to her family and community. Her most cherished moments were spent during summer vacations and Easter holiday weekends visiting her mother and family in Providence, RI. Her happiest moments with friends in Toronto were always spent at the dining room table. A visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St. on Tuesday, January 20th from 2-4 & 6 – 8 p.m. Panakhyda at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Josaphats Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral (143 Franklin Ave) on Wednesday, January 21st at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Volodymyr Cemetery, 1280 Dundas Street West, Oakville.
