Beloved sister in law to Walter Barszczyk (Sue Hearn), Ihor Barszczyk (Lidia Barszczyk) and their children Andrew Barszczyk (Emily Barszczyk), and Mark Barszczyk (Shirley Poon). Marion also leaves behind a large extended family in Western Canada.

Marion’s impact on the Ukrainian Canadian community in Toronto will always been remembered. She was involved with various community organizations, and gave back so much of herself to the community.  She loved helping people.  She actively volunteered her time at the Ukrainian Canadian Social Services Toronto branch, and served as the National President of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada (UCWLC).  She attended Catholic elementary schools and was a graduate of Mount Mary’s Academy in Ancaster. Marion also graduated from the University of Guelph in Slavonic Studies, and from the University of Toronto, gaining her Masters Degree in Social Work. Marion worked for the Catholic Children’s Aid Society for over 20 years and was later recruited by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto (CCAT) as the Program Manager of Development, Social and Health Service Management.  The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Keith Johnstone and Irina Kesminas at the Dorothy Lei Hospice, as well as the Palliative Care Team (Vladimir).  A special thank you goes out to Marion’s personal care givers Pani Natalka Lohoyda and Pani Oksana Stupnycka, as well as all of the PSW’s from CBI that assisted in Marion’s daily care.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) for the children of Ukraine that have been affected by the war.

Father John and Alexander, you have my very deepest sympathy. Marion was a warm, welcoming, and competent professional with whom I enjoyed working as a volunteer with Catholic Charities. She introduced me to the system and remained as a support person who seemed to welcome my requests for help without hesitation. While dedicated to her work, her love and devotion to her family appeared to the centre from which this wonderful woman of faith operated. May you find comfort in the support and care of of family and friends. I regret that I could not meet you in person. fr. Jim Casper SCJ

Ми особливо вдячні за Добродійки тепле й товариське відношення до нашої мами Олександри Ковальської в співпраці в Суспільній Службі, в ЛУКЖ й опісля в маминих похилих літах. My sincere condolences to Father Barszczyk and his family on the passing of Marion. I knew Marion from her community work at the Ukrainian Canadian Social Services in Toronto where she was head for a period of time. Marion was always engaging and she sought new ideas and initiatives to make the organization more meaningful to the broader community. She has left us far too soon, and she will be dearly missed. Vichnaya Pamyat!

Hi Fr. Barszczyk, I am So Sorry to Hear of the Passing of Your Wife Marion My Deepest Sympathy on her Passing. May God Grant her Rest in Abraham's Bosom where there is Neither Sorrow or Crying but Ever Lasting Peace and Joy. Vichnaya Pamyat! Arnold God of spirits and all flesh, You trampled death, You made the devil powerless, and You gave life to Your world. Now, O Lord, to the soul of Your servant, + Marion Barszczyk who has fallen asleep, grant her rest in a place of light, a place of verdure, and a place of tranquility, from which pain, sorrow and mourning have fled. As the good and loving God, forgive every sin of thought, word or deed she has committed. There is no one who will live and will not sin, for You alone are sinless. Your justice is everlasting justice and Your word is truth. For You, O Christ our God, are the Resurrection, the Life and the Repose of Your servant, + Marion Barszczyk who has fallen asleep, and we give glory to You, together with Your eternal Father and You most holy, good and life-giving Spirit now and forever and ever . Amen.

Our entire family extends our deepest sympathies to Father Ivan (John) Barszczyk, his son Alexander and their families. Marion was a kind and joyful person. We came to know Marion and her wonderful husband through the many religious or charity events that they were involved in within our Ukrainian-Canadian community. Marion was dedicated to her church family and the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada which she eventually headed as its National President. She had many plans for the organization but, alas, her unexpected illness forced her to withdraw to the caring arms of her family. We will all miss her. My God grant her peace and eternal life.

We first got to meet Marusia at our daughter’s Larysa baptism, when she and o. Ivan came over to the house with their young son Olesh. Then over the years our children became close friends, hanging out together at various social functions, taking part in numerous shenanigans, camp Veselka and Barvinok dance concerts, where Marusia was the unofficial photographer. Then seeing her at so many UCWL functions, doing so much good for our hromada. I miss sharing tea with her in her kitchen talking about our boys! We last visited her and o. Ivan exactly a year ago, when we shared butter tarts. Everyone who knew her, saw she was a beautiful soul. Even though she had gone through so much, you never saw her not smile. She lived up to the name “Dobrodijka”. Вічная памʼять
