Obituary
Died peacefully on Wednesday July 02, 2014 in Toronto at the age of 94. Born on June 27, 1920 in Smykiwci, Ukraine, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Yaroslaw (2000), her son Ihor (1943) and her 4 older and caring brothers: Vlodko, Victor, Dmytro and Hilko. As the heart and soul of the Barchynsky/Rohowsky families, she leaves behind her four children who were blessed to have such a remarkable woman as their mother: Lydia Olah (George), Oksana Wells (Bob and Craig), Zenon Barchynsky (Luba) and Ulana Barchynsky (Bohdan Klufas). As Baba, she treated each grandchild (Michael, Daria, Roma and Markian) as a precious gift and they will miss her love and devotion. As matriarch of the Rohowsky clan, she leaves her nieces and nephews and their children with love of family: Olga Prytula, Natalia Kitt, Stefan Rohowsky, George Rohowsky, Larissa Lucenko. They remember the extraordinary lengths our Mother went to ensure the cultivation of family bonds between her brothers, nieces, nephews and their children. As an active member of her Ukrainian Canadian community, including her beloved St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Toronto, she will be remembered for her enthusiastic participation. Friends and family in the United States, Canada, Poland and her beloved Ukraine will miss her frequent visits and phone calls. This remarkable woman faced many adversities with a fierce determination to avoid being subsumed by them. Instead, she faced her challenges with a love for life and devotion to family. The family thanks the staff of the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre for the special care she received. Despite this superior care, our Mother, Baba and Teta succumbed to the ravages of a weakened heart and lungs and she passed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St. (east of Keele), Toronto on Friday, July 4th from 6:30-9 p.m. with panakhyda at 7 p.m. A Divine Liturgy will take place on Saturday, July 5th at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4 Bellwoods Ave., Toronto at 10:00 am.
