Obituary

On July 15, 2022, my mom, Shirley Lillico Bishop (nee Barrie and MacKay) of Streetsville and Schomberg passed quickly and quietly at the age of 89 in Credit Valley Hospital. To mom’s very last day before her passing she shared her love of life, compassion, humour and laughter with family and staff at the hospital. Mom was blessed with two wonderful husbands who predeceased her, my dad, Iain MacKay and step-father Leonard Bishop. My wife, Betty Wilson-MacKay and our children Kirsten and Spencer will miss our weekly dinners out with Shirley at her favourite restaurants where she was treated like a queen.  We will intern mom with a small family get together at Streetsville Cemetery later this summer but ask all those who know her to recall and keep alive a happy moment you shared with her.  I know that mom would like to thank you all for making her life as fulfilling, and happy as it was.

We are so lucky to have had Shirley as a part of the Wilson-MacKay family. I love the attitude she had towards life, always talking and making jokes with the people around her, wether she had met them before or not. Any person who talked to Shirley would have a better day because of it. Her smile truly made the world a better place and she will be deeply missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Malcolm, Betty, Kirsten, and Spenser. I was lucky to have met Shirley and I remember how incredibly proud she was posing with Betty and Malcolm during some wedding photos. I remember looking through my lens and seeing the love, closeness, and beautiful smiles. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

It sure was easy to fall in love with Shirley! She was always so much fun and so loving herself. What a gift to have Shirley as my wonderful mother-in-law and grandmother for Kirsten and Spencer. We will miss her so much. Shirley was a big part of all our holiday events. Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and of course birthdays were even more fun with Shirley. Everyone enjoyed her quick wit which was always followed with a wink and a smile. Shirley was always having a good time time and I told her and many others what a great role model she was. During our girls nights out at Trattoria Timone and Cassalinga she would sing along with nearby birthdays and talk to the kids at other tables making their evenings more special too. Shirley loved a party and being out with people. Even in the hospital she had fun joking with the staff which they clearly enjoyed as well. Shirley made such a positive impact on everyone she spent time with and we are so grateful for all the times we shared. It's very hard to think that she's no longer with us. We'll keep her happy spirit alive, singing along when we have the chance and remembering always to have a really good time like Shirley did.
