Obituary

October 21, 1921 – May 2, 2010 Dora, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on May 2, 2010 after failing health, in her 89th year. Predeceased by her husband Alex (Oleksey). Loving mother of Nina Semper-Ross (Len) of Huntsville, Barbara Pollard (Jim) of Mississauga and Zina Decker (Todd) of Toronto. Caring grandmother of Tim Semper (Predeceased 1996), Justin (Stephanie), Alexandra and Jillian Pollard and Natalie Decker. Dear aunt of Walter, Tamara and Nadia Gulezko. Born in the Ukraine, Dora survived the famines of Stalin, the onset of Communism, forced labour in Germany under Nazi occupation and finally immigration to Canada after World War II. Her wonderful spirit, strong work ethic and amazing sense of humour got her through all these hardships. After retiring from St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Toronto, she transferred her culinary skills to volunteering at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. We will all sadly miss her happy face, funny stories and mouthwatering meals. Friends may call at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street (North of Dundas) on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-9 pm, with Panachida at 7:30 pm. Funeral service will begin at the funeral home on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 10:00 am, and proceed to St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral for The Orthodox Rite of Funeral at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at York Cemetery. Special thanks to the Doctors and Staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Islington Renal Centre, the support staff at St. Demetrious Residence and all the staff at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre. Memorial donations may be made to the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.cardinalfuneralhomes.com
