Obituary

Valentyna was born in the village of Izium, Eastern Ukraine, the youngest of eight children.  At the age of eight she survived the 1932-33 Holodomor during which time her mother and one of her sisters died from starvation.  She was cared for by an older sister until at age 18 she was taken into slave labour in a German factory during the second world war.  Following the war she resided in Strasbourg France where she met and married Clement Chewchuk.  In 1950 they and their newborn son came to Canada and settled in Toronto where a year later their second son was born.  Valentyna is pre-deceased by her husband and she leaves her two sons Walter (Slavka) and Ihor (Irene) along with three grandchildren, Simon, Christina, and Katya.  She was pre-deceased by her grandson Vasylko. After a long life of hard work and caring for her family her soul can now rest in the arms of God. Vichna Pamyat.
