Obituary
It is with sadness the family of Valentyna (Valerie) Sokolow announces her passing on January 6, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Valentyna was born in Kyiv, Ukraine on December 24, 1922. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Wolodymyr (Walter) Sokolow and her dear grandson Alexander John Whatley. She is survived by her daughters Natalie Whatley (husband Don) and Rita Sokolow. Loving grandmother of Jennifer Cartwright (husband Richard), Helena Prokopiw and Andrei Prokopiw (wife Erin). Great- grandmother of Andrew Cartwright. The family would like to thank the staff of the Ivan Franko Home in Etobicoke for their dedicated care. The family will receive friends at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street (north of Dundas), beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Panachyda will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., then to St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral for the Orthodox Rite of Funeral at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road, North York, M2N 5Z5, 416-221-3404. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated."Visitation
