Obituary

HILL, Dorothy Jean, died October 16, 2016, at the age of 91. Predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Henrietta Hill. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her many cherished friends, neighbours, and former colleagues, with whom she created a family, especially treasuring their children. Dorothy spent her whole working career at Maclean Hunter, beginning in 1941 at the age of 16, when Colonel John B. Maclean was the chairman and Horace Hunter was the president. She worked in the Canadian Press Clipping Service reading room as a clipper, a reader, and supervisor. CPCS collected mentions in newspapers and publications from around the globe, and this was how companies and individuals monitored their media presence before the Internet age. Consequently, Dorothy was very well read and informed on global events and business affairs. She retired in 1995 after 54 years of service. Dorothy lived in the same house on Salem Ave in Toronto her whole life, until finding a new home around the corner in New Horizons Tower at Bloor and Dufferin in 2007, just across from her old public school. A humble person, Dorothy was known for her generosity and volunteerism. According to her wishes, there will be no funeral service and Dorothy will be interred at Prospect Cemetery with her parents.
