It is with sadness that I announced that our dear sister, Gloria Middleton, passed away in her home unexpectedly on January 21, 2024. Gloria was born in Tuskegee Alabama. Gloria completed her post-secondary studies in Alabama. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University in Alabama. She has a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor Michigan. After Gloria graduated from the University of Michigan, she worked for a while as a Social worker in Alabama before moving to Sweden. She lived and worked in Sweden as a Social worker for about eight to nine years. She then moved to Canada where she resided in Toronto for many years up until her passing. While Gloria lived in Toronto, Gloria worked as a Social worker and Program Supervisor for Employment Initiatives at the City of Toronto in Toronto Employment and Social Services Division before she retired. Gloria was a stanch supporter of her cultural community. She was present at many cultural celebrations throughout the City and beyond. She particularly liked going to Afro-Fest, Kwanza celebrations, cultural shows, movies, plays and performances. Gloria joined and volunteer with groups outside of her culture. She volunteered at (Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) and Reelworld Toronto Film Festival for many years and enjoyed the movies and the people she met. Gloria was empathetic, kind and friendly. She had friends and associates from different cultures and of all ages. Gloria will be missed by her family, friends, associates and acquaintances. Gloria is survived by two sisters, a brother, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Thanks to everyone that is or was touched by Gloria as well as to everyone that touched her and inspired her.
