Obituary

Nadyezhda (Nadia) Rumine, died peacefully in her sleep on December 20, 2023, aged 99 years.
Her parents were Capt. Constantine Nikolaevich Rumin and Lydia Philosofovna Ornatsky of St. Petersburg, Russia. The Russian Civil war brought them to Egypt where Nadia was born in 1924, and where she lived until after WW2, when she emigrated to Canada - spending the rest of her life in Toronto. It was her great joy to reconnect, in 1991, to her cousins in St. Petersburg, Russia after almost 60 years of separation and silence.
For many years, she worked as a lab technician at Connaught Laboratories, developing animal vaccines.
Nadia is survived by her brother - Nicholas Rumin (and his wife Lydia Demianiuk), niece - Anna Rumin  (m/ Norman Southward), nephew - Nicholas Rumin (m/ Mary Langeron), grand nieces Tamara Southward and Katherine Rumin, grand nephew Edward Southward, her god-daughter, Christine Hertler, and a generation of younger relatives in Russia who remember her kindness and grace.
Funeral is on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 2pm, at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church at 23 Henry Street, in Toronto, followed by burial at York Cemetery in North York.
