Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Rhyll Peel on Thursday December 16th, 2021. Rhyll was mom to Celine Peel-Michaud and Stefan Carter, and cherished by many friends and family members. Rhyll was a bright light whose engaging personality always left a positive mark on people.

After a beautiful life, Rhyll passed away in a peaceful setting at home after dealing with health challenges over the past number of years. A celebration of life will be held in the year 2022, more details regarding this will be made available in the coming months.

In lieu of flowers, information on where contributions from friends and family can be made will be provided at a later date.

Rhyll was a close friend of mine. I just found out on Facebook today. We talked on the phone often and communicated by FB messenger. Our last conversation was literally days before she passed. We had plans to connect this summer if her surgery would happen. She was a close friend since 2007, and we talked often about our mutual love of music, our passion for our children, and deep conversations. Whenever I went home to Toronto, we always had a brief visit. She knew my life was busy from December 18th- March, so we planned to have a weekend together in April. I just called her on Monday and left a voicemail about connecting. I never met Stefan and Celine in person, but I feel like I know you well since we talked often of your achievements, and her hopes and cherished moments with you. Rhyll was family to me all of these years, and I will miss her so. I want to honor her by creating an in memoriam for her with your permission.

Dear Stefan and Celine I just heard about your mom’s death. It was way too soon! We were colleagues for decades and always felt like kindred spirits. She was a wonderful violist and such a vivacious person, so engaged with life. I was just thinking of her a while ago, wishing we could meet up and have a meal and a good catching up session. Very sad. I am so sorry for your enormous loss. Diane Tait

Dear Stefan and Celine; What a shock to hear this very sad news. I first met Rhyll in Edmonton way back in the last century, then again here in Toronto, on various stages and pit orchestras. It was always wonderful to play with her. Please accept my deepest condolences for your (and all of our) untimely loss of this always thoughtful, lovely, joyful woman.

Dear Allan, Luc, Stefan and Celine I was very sad to learn of Rhyll's passing. I had no idea she had been unwell and the news has come as a shock. I met Rhyll in first year university, a time so long ago, I hesitate to number the years. We were instant friends; her verve, her amazing sense of fun, the intimacy she brought to her relationships, her energy and talent made her a favourite in my family and though in the last few years we had lost touch she was never far from my thoughts. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. She will be sorely missed. I would like to be informed of any memorial or service in the future.
