Obituary
Михайло Грицишин, народився 18-ого вересня 1923 р. у селі Вербиливці, Рогатинського повіту, Івано Фраківської області. Його батьки, Теодор та Катерина, з дому Зінчук, мали шестеро дітей: Анну, Євдогію, Стефана, Івана, Михайла та Катерину. Вони були хлібороби котрі тяжко працювали і жили постійно під окупацією. Мама Катерина була дуже побожною і тримала родину при церкві і так дітей виховувала.
Михайло мав намір стати юристом але його гаряча кров, неспокій і охота позбутися огидного окупанта змусило вісімнадцять річного Михайла з двома друзями зі села, записатися до Української Націоналної Армії, Першої Дивізії Галичина без дозволу батьків. Вони буквально не знали що вони записалися на службу і як Михайло сказав батькові то він не приняв з задоволеням його рішення. Михайло вирушив в дорогу але ніколи не думав що сім’ю знову не побачить.
У Дивизії, Михаїло закінчив рекрутську школу і був вибраний на підофіцерську школу, яку також закінчив успішно, і здобув звання сержанта. Як сержант, Михайлові було доручено провадити курінем складено з шістнадцяти молодих вояків проти Сталинської червоної армії на фронтах Европи у Словачині, Югославії і при кінці війни в Австрії. Продовж війни, він завжди ніс в кишені при грудях дерев’яний хрест який взяв з дому, і як розповідав синам про війну, завжди згадувув що віра і хрест його врятували.
По капиталізації війни, Михаїло опинився у Белгії де тяжко працював у вугільних шахтах. З часом опинився в Англії де він одружився і почав сім'ю. Родина разом приїхали до Канади, але на жаль, Михайло з дружиною розлучилися і мама з двома донями, Іванкою і Любою, переїхали до Італії.
Через якийсь час, Михайло познайомився з Анною Євусяк, і невдовзі 6-го червня 1964 р. вони оженилися в церкві св. Покрови при вулиці Батерст. Через рік народився їм син Роман a за ним другий син Мирон. З часом молода пара змогли спонсорувати матір Анни Анастасію, її брата Михайла, сестру Стефанію та сестру Марію з родиною до Канади.
Михайло і Анна Грицишин були одні із перших парафіян Собору св. Покрови. де він також був активним членом БУК-у. Михайло теж був членом 408-ого відділу Українського Народного Союзу і довголітним головою. Він був надзвичайно відданий Богові, своїй родині, та організаціям де він був членом. Тридцять сім років Михайло працював ночами, завантажаючи залізничні вагони і вантажівки щоб міх утримати родину і дати дітям всі можливості в Канаді, які він сам немав. Михайло дуже любив своїх синів а ще більше своїх внуків.
Вдень 25-го березня 2021 р., на сороковий день смерті своєї дорогої дружини Анни, Михайло спокійно помер в пансіоні ім. Івана Франка. Він залишив в глибокому смутку доньків Іванку й Любу в Італії, синів Мирона та Романа з невісткою Лесею, онуків Оріяну (Scott Hayward), Адріана, Тамару, Лукіяна та Інесу, шваґриню Стефанію Шикулу, братову Марію Євусяк та ширшу родину в Україні.
Похоронні відправи відбудуться у вівтопок, 30-го березня 2021 р. у церкві Святої Покрови, і Михайло буде похований на кладовищі Св. Володимира в Оквіл.

Mychailo Hrycyshyn was born on September 18, 1923 in the village of Verbylivtsy, Rohatyn district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. His parents, Theodore and Kateryna, née Zinchuk, had six children: Anna, Evdokhiya, Stefan, Ivan, Mychailo and Kateryna. They were a family of farmers who worked hard living in an occupied land. Mychailo’s mother Kateryna was deeply religious and raised her children in the same way whereby church was the centre of family life.
Mychailo aspired to become a lawyer, but his fierce patriotism and desire to rid Ukraine of its occupier forced eighteen -year-old Mychailo and two friends from his village to enlist in the Ukrainian National Army, First Division of Galicia without his parents' permission. His parents were unaware that they had enlisted for service and when Mychailo told his father, he reluctantly supported his decision. With that, Mychailo set out, never thinking he would not see his family again.
Within the ranks of the First Division, Mychailo graduated from recruiting school and was selected to the non-commissioned officer school, which he also graduated successfully from and received the rank of sergeant. As a sergeant, Mychailo was assigned to lead a squad of sixteen young soldiers against the Stalinist Red Army on the fronts of Europe in Slovakia, Yugoslavia, and at the end of the war in Austria. During the war, he always carried a wooden cross in his breast pocket, which he took from home, and as he told his sons about the war, he always mentioned that faith and the cross had saved him.
After the capitalization of the war, Mychailo found himself in Belgium, where he worked hard in the coal mines. Eventually, he went to England where he married and started a family. Together the family came to Canada, but unfortunately Mychailo and his wife divorced, and his children, daughters Ivanka and Luba, moved to Italy with their mother.
After some time, Mychailo met Anna Jewusiak and soon thereafter, on June 6, 1964, they were married in the Church of the Holy Protection on Bathurst St. A year later they had a son, Roman, followed by a second son, Myron. Over time, the young couple were able to sponsor Anna's mother Anastasia, her brother Michael, sister Stephanie and sister Maria and her family to Canada.
Mychailo and Anna Hrycyshyn were one of the first parishioners at the Church of the Holy Protection, where Mychailo was also an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. Additionally, Mychailo was also a member of the 408th division of the Ukrainian National Federation and a longtime president. He was extremely devoted to his faith, his family, and the organizations of which he was a member. For thirty-seven years, Mychailo worked night shifts, loading railroad cars and trucks to support his family and give his children all the opportunities in Canada that he did not have growing up. Mychailo loved his sons, daughters and even more so his grandchildren.
On the afternoon of March 25, 2021, on the fortieth day of the death of his dear wife Anna, Michael died peacefully in the Ivan Franko Long-Term Care Home. He left in deep sorrow daughters Ivanka and Luba in Italy, sons Myron and Roman with daughter-in-law Lesia, grandchildren Oriyana (Scott Hayward), Adriyan, Tamara, Lukiyan and Inessa, sister-in-laws Stefania Shykula and Maria Jewusiak and extended family in Ukraine.
Funeral services for Mychailo will be held on Tuesday March 30, 2021 at the Church of the Holy Protection, and Mychailo will be laid to rest at St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Oakville.
