Dear Mary, I'm so glad I had a chance to chat with Roy last Spring at the RCI Science Dinner. Over 15 years ago when I was active in the RCI and helping out at the refreshments with Paolo, Roy always stood out for connecting to us. He had a down-to-earth niceness about him that I've actually reminded myself of from time to time to follow, especially when I'm encountering younger students. He is someone I'd love to have photographed, if I had that chance. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to you, your daughter and the rest of your family. It's a lovely gift that we can continue to live by the example of Roy's humanity, and I am particularly grateful for that.

Dear Mary and family, I would like to express my sympathy to you, your daughter and your family. It is with great regret I heard of Roy's passing. Until news of his recent set back, I had great hopes that he would beat the odds. Roy and I started at SciMed within a year of each other so we share a similar and lengthy landscape, as do the other staff members at Gerstein. Through the years, it has been enjoyable and interesting to hear news of your family, Roy's research and his publications, and his activities and presidency of RCI. Since Roy's leave he has been missed by his friends and colleagues here at the Library. He left a big gap which was not easy to fill. Thus, everyone was always very pleased to see you and he visit when Roy was able. Please know that the thoughts of Roy's friends and colleagues at the University of Toronto Libraries, and especially at Gerstein, are with you and your family. Roy lifted us in spirit to better appreciate the world around us, and to become better citizens in caring for this world and for each other. These are lessons that will continue to live in each of us, and Roy's legacy will be generational as we pass this wisdom and insight forward.

I am so sorry to hear of Roy's passing. I worked at the former Sigmund Samuel Library from the mid seventies and Roy worked in the Medicine Library, we passed each other often he always had a smile and a kind word.
