Obituary

Ula, Ulita, Ula La La was so very loved by everyone who knew her and saw her light. She was our amazing, talented, shining, brave and bold and sweet and nerdy girl. She was such an artistic talent, and she was funny enough to be on a stage. Ula cared so much about other people and loved life beyond words. Ula Marguerite Podesta Chalmers is our star and we love her so, so much. We miss her more than words can say. She is forever in our hearts. We love you Ula.

There will be a celebration of Ula's life at the Algonquin Island Association (AIA) on Sunday, December 17th starting at 3 pm til evening.
To get there you need to take the 230 ferry to Ward's Island (15 min) and then walk to the AIA (10 min).

Ula was such a kind person who I knew for a long time and with each day that goes by I miss her more and more. The world was a much better place with you in it and I wish you were still here.

Ula was the first friend I met in high school. Well, I met her in the summer before grade 9 at a playground. She was working a summer camp, I was babysitting. We ate lunch together from the very first day at Northern. She was kind, funny and unapologetically Ula. My parents remember her, they say she was the nicest girl. I remember her saying she understood me, and I felt like she really did. She was caring, and attentive. I have a lively memory of her in my head, mostly memories of her in a star wars t-shirt, big blue jeans complete with a ferry pass. I enjoyed every second of our connections; she helped me through almost every day for her entire time at NSS. Then later, our connections online. My fondest memory was a seemingly little one, sliding down a icy hill at Eglington park. She was laughing, I was laughing and now I watch the video over and over to hear her say my name. The way she talked to me, She made me feel appreciated. She made me laugh. The most recent time I saw her in person was a couple months ago, she called my name again and gave me the biggest hug. oh Ula… She was an incredibly bright soul that I will always remember. My heart is with you and your family during these times.

Words can't express how I feel. I loved Ula. She was a sweetheart, so kindhearted and empathic. She loved Bentzi our cat, and often joked that he was getting "sassy" in middle age (Bentzi loved her, she was so good with him). I made her French toast for her 16th birthday, and she was always happy when we were having Costco samosas for dinner. I've never seen another teenage girl pull off eye makeup like she could. She admitted to me that while she didn't think she was good at very many things, she knew she was a very good artist, and she let me look at her sketchbook. I'm so sorry she suffered and was in so much pain. She deserved to live a long, happy, healthy life, and you deserved to live your life with Ula.

Ula and met each other in gym class in grade 9, I loved her style and her energy and immediately knew I wanted to be her friend . We would hangout at Christie pitts with all of our friends and she would always just have the best jokes and the kindest words to say. When I would run into her she would run up and hug me and make me feel so much better. Ula was a light in so many people’s lives. I am so sorry for your loss, she was truly such a special girl who loved and laughed loudly. Your family is in my prayers in this time.
