Obituary
Wilhelmina “Wilma” Cosico passed away on December 31st, 2020 at the age of 72. She will be remembered by family and friends as a strong-willed and independent woman, who was deeply devoted and in love with her husband, Rodolfo “Rudy” Cosico (predeceased November 28th, 2020).
Wilma was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on February 25th, 1948, where she grew up in a full house with three siblings. Wilma was an adventurous soul and spent much of her 20s and 30s travelling. She eventually settled in New York City where she pursued a career as a nanny. Wilma moved to Toronto when she met the love of her life, Rudy. They were married on March 27th, 1992 and created a life together that was full of happiness, devotion, and laughter. In addition to being a loving wife, she became a mother to her stepchildren, Rose and Matthew.
Wilma and Rudy were always side by side through all of life’s challenges. When Wilma was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was her zeal for life, as well as support from family and friends, that helped her persevere. Rudy was there for her through her fight and likewise Wilma stood by his side during his battle with kidney disease and heart failure, holding his hand, right to his very final moments in this world.
Wilma was always someone who valued happiness and the small joys in life. Through her love for Rudy, she developed a passion for martial arts - in particular, Karate and Arnis. Together they formed Arnis Canada, a martial arts club that would cultivate many successful athletes through its years. She also enjoyed dressing up for a night out on the town, or to dine at local restaurants. Wilma always made sure her hair was perfectly coloured and coiffed at her favourite salon on Roncesvalles, and her nails were painted in a vibrant colour. On her down time, you would find Wilma completing one of many word searches in her word search book.
A memorial service will be held for Wilma on Saturday, January 9th, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, it will be on an invitation-only basis. Those wishing to celebrate Wilma’s life can virtually attend the service by requesting a Zoom meeting link from the family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.
Visitation
Due to the current pandemic restrictions and under direction from our regulator, the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, effective November 23, 2020 all funerals and visitations will be by invitation only to limit the number of people in attendance and prevent the spread of COVID-19. We encourage those that are unable to attend in person to express their sympathy by posting a message of condolence to our website, donating to a charity of your choice in memory of your loved one or by sending flowers to the funeral home. If desired, in memory of Wilma, memorial donations to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
