Obituary

Regina Jezovit died peacefully on July 12, 2025 at Toronto Western Hospital at the age of 93.

Beloved mother of Tomislav (Rosanne), and beloved grandmother of Andrea (Corey), Vanessa (Jordan), Joshua, Jacob (Kayleigh) and great-grandchildren Georgia (Gigi) Rose, Oliver and Lilliana.

Loving mother and grandmother to Anthony and his family, and loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Regina was born on February 29, 1932 in Nova Topola, Bosnia & Herzegovina, to Ljubo and Teresa Materka (nee Ti Best). She was one of five siblings: predeceased by brother Anthony and sisters Josephine and Paula, she is survived by sister Rose Anne.

She left her home in 1944 and spent numerous years after World War II in refugee camps until her arrival in Halifax, Canada, with her family in 1948.

The family settled in Toronto, and with help from the Croatian community were able to purchase a home on Windermere Ave. in the west end of the city. The home became a place where newly- arrived Croatian immigrants stayed until they became self-sustained.

Regina first met Stephen Jezovit at this home, and they married in 1951. They began their family in the same home on Windermere, until they were able to purchase their own home in the west end. Their new home also became a gathering place for the Croatian community, and a hub for initiatives such as fundraising for the founding of the then new Our Lady Queen of Croatia Catholic Church.

Regina lived here after the passing of her beloved Stephen until the last month of her life, enjoying her flower garden and her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who have happy memories of her wonderful family meals and shared trips to the cottage and Croatia.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated.

My deepest sympathy to Regina's family - Stephen and Regina were such a lovely couple and great neighbors I remember years ago when Stephen had purchased a new vehicle and he told us how he wanted it to have a bench seat so he could be seated close to Regina not one of the new cars with bucket seats May she Rest in Peace
