Obituary

Mrs. Nina “Nettie” Mills passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 14th, at the O'Neill Centre, Long Term Care in Toronto. Nettie was in her 96th year at the time of her passing.

Nettie was born in Truro, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of the late David and Nina Paris.

Nettie was retired after being employed as a sales associate with Simpson Sears and the Hudson Bay Company. Nettie loved her job as it gave her the chance to meet people. She always had a friendly smile and interesting stories to tell friends and store patrons.  She loved going to Bingo and was often lucky at the game.

Nettie is survived by her son Benjamin Mills of Toronto.  She is also survived by four brothers, Herbert, Albert, Alex, and Jerome “Dunnie”, all residing in Nova Scotia.

She was predeceased by her husband Sidney “Phooie” Mills. Nettie was also predeceased by six siblings, Patience Paris, Edna Paris, Ella Sands, Thomas “Din” Paris, Jerome Paris Sr., and Clyde Paris.

Special thanks to the staff at the O'Neill Centre and the Elm Grove Living Centre for their caring and professional help given to Nettie during her final years.

My condolences to Bennie and the Paris family regarding the passing of Net...RIP. Net and her husband, Phooie opened their home to me when I first came to Toronto after I graduated from High School. She will be remembered for her special laugh and smile. She lived a long life and earned her rest...God bless.

Bennie and family, Marty and I send our thoughts and prayer for all as we go through Aunt Net's passing. I for one will always remember her love, laugher and stern talk she would give me as a young soldier when I would spend a weekend with her and Uncle Phooie in Toronto. Aunt Net, as with Mom and Grandma will remain in our hearts and thoughts always. With her passing I share this lovely poem I have often read and shared with others who had loss a loved one so dear. "SHE IS NOT GONE" Ease your grief, she is not gone, For in your heart, she lingers on. Her smile, her laugh, her special way. You’ll feel her presence in the breeze, That dances gently through the trees, And it’s her face that you will see, When you’re in need of company. At any time, you can recall, The love you shared, you saved it all. An in time, more than anything, You’ll find peace when remembering.
