Obituary
“Her light will forever shine – as her love runs deep”
With profound love, we remember Kalera Iris Nichols-Agard, born at the Royal Sussex hospital in Brighton, UK, and raised in Lewes. Kalera’s life touched many. She passed away on March 26, 2026, leaving behind a legacy shaped by courage, kindness, faith, and joy.
Beloved daughter of Grace Nichols and John Agard; cherished sister of Lesley and Yansan; and devoted aunt to her much loved- nephew Marcus. Kalera was a deeply treasured presence at the heart of her family and among friends across the world.
She was surrounded by her loved ones and dear friends whose companionship meant so much to her, as well as colleagues who came to know her warmth and friendship beyond the workplace.
Kalera moved through the world with an open heart and genuine care for others. Her Christian faith was a steady and sustaining foundation, quietly shaping the way she lived, loved, and showed up for those around her. Kalera drew comfort and strength from her favourite bible verse Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd”.
She travelled widely with her parents, both Guyanese born British writers. This love of travel carried through her life, embracing new places and cultures with curiosity and wonder. Her travels took her far and wide; her favourite cities being New York and Toronto which in 2018 she began to call home and grew to love as such.
Kalera loved to dance. As part of the STEPs dance group, she found connection and friendship through music and movement. She also shared her voice as a member of the Greater Toronto Gospel Choir, where song and faith came together in a community she cherished.
Kalera appreciated life’s simple pleasures — good chocolate, meaningful conversation, travel, music, and moments when dancing felt like the most natural expression of happiness. She had a way of bringing lightness into a room and helping others feel at ease.
Her passing leaves a profound and tender ache in our hearts. We are grateful beyond words for the love she gave so freely, and for the memories we will carry with us always. Her presence continues to be felt in quiet moments, in music, and whenever her people gathered.
Rather than flowers or donations — just live like Kalera. Be purposeful, be brave, be kind, stay curious, and keep chasing the adventures ahead.
To celebrate Kalera’s joyful spirit, we invite you to add a splash of pink to your attire – it was her favourite colour!
