Obituary
Terry Medwedyk passed away at Credit Valley Hospital on Saturday, January 24, 2026. He is now reunited with his dearly departed mother Stefania, father Nicholas and sister Vera. He will be profoundly missed by his brother Jerry (Marg), his brother-in-law Borys, his nieces and nephews – Natalia and Markian, with whom he was very close, Mike (Christine) and Jim (Shawna), as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews Kilyan, Raiden, Jade, Dustyn, Alannah and Joshua, and his many cousins and friends.
Terry was a gentle and caring man who was always happy to help others. He enjoyed music, film, long meaningful conversations, good food (especially on patios) and cherished time spent with family and friends. He was fiercely devoted to those he loved and deeply passionate about his work.
Although modest about his career success, Terry was one of the most talented acousticians and studio designers in the world. In 1983, he founded and became director of Group One Acoustics Inc., specializing in architectural acoustics and focused on facility design for music recording studios and the post-audio and film industry. In the 1990s, his work expanded to include theatres, churches and home cinemas.
Terry acoustically engineered some of Canada’s most prestigious and beautiful recording studios and spaces, worked with impressive clients globally and guest-lectured at many schools. Significant local projects included: Noble Street Studios (which won a 2013 Toronto Urban Design Award of Excellence), Phase One Studios, Technicolor Sound Post Inc, Kuhl Muzik, Lacquer Channel Mastering, Alpine Mastering, Metalworks Institute's campus studios, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Stratford Festival, CBC, Bell Media, Corus Entertainment, University of Toronto, Humber College and Sheridan College.
Known as much for his kindness as for his expertise, Terry leaves an extraordinary professional and personal legacy.
