Obituary
With deep heartbreak and profound grief, we announce the passing of Cheryl Jane (Wabick) Dyck at Toronto General Hospital, from complications while awaiting an organ transplant.
Cheryl was born in Winnipeg, to Don and Elsie Wabick. She grew up in St. Norbert, Manitoba, spending many summers camping with her parents and sister Jacqueline.
Cheryl graduated from St. Norbert High School and turned her practical problem solving skills into a long career of administration and inventory management.
She was most proud of being mother to her daughters Janice and Laura Hirschfield. Cheryl met the love of her life, Dennis, and they married in 2002.
Cheryl had many talents, loads of creativity, and many passions. In her recent retirement, she took up beaded jewelry making and enjoyed meeting people at craft markets. She found great joy in hosting and cooking for family and friends. No one left her dinner table hungry.
Cheryl loved the outdoors, cottage life, and in recent years, travelling with Dennis, RV in tow. She enjoyed exploring new sights, but her post-travel stories most often focused on the people they met along the way. New acquaintances became fast friends.
Cheryl had the energy of two people, despite decades of living with a worsening chronic health condition. She loved life and valiantly fought for it to the very end. The family would like to thank Cheryl’s medical teams in Winnipeg and Toronto for their care and compassion.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband Dennis, daughters Janice Hirschfield, Laura Hirschfield (Tyler Danley), sister Jacqueline Heinrichs (Abe), parents Don and Elsie Wabick, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cheryl, your zest for life and the light you brought to every moment will stay with us always.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider completing your organ donor card in honour of the gift of life.
