Obituary

In Loving Memory of Dimitra Kolitsopoulos (née Kastanis)

Dimitra Kolitsopoulos (née Kastanis), lovingly known as Toula, passed away peacefully on February 14th at the age of 83, following a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Born on August 15, 1942, in Liantina, Laconia, in the Peloponnese region of Greece, Dimitra was the cherished daughter of Alexandros and Sophia. She grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and the traditions of her beloved homeland; values she carried with her throughout her life.

After immigrating to Toronto, she met her husband, Konstantinos Kolitsopoulos. They shared 49 devoted years of marriage until his sudden passing only a few short weeks ago. Together, they worked tirelessly and built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for their family.

Dimitra was a caring and devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a loving Yiayia, an adored sister, and a treasured friend. She will be tremendously missed by her daughter Effie, her son John and her beautiful grandsons, Alexander and Constantine. Her greatest joy in life was being a proud Yiayia to her boys (“ta agoria mou”). Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments, and showering them with unconditional love.

Dimitra had the sweetest soul anyone could meet. She loved gathering with friends, tending to her beautiful gardens, and sharing stories, laughter, and delicious meals around her table. Her vibrant and outgoing spirit and generous heart touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, she leaves behind her loving brothers and sister, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews in Canada and Greece who will cherish her memory always.

Dimitra’s kindness, strength, and warmth will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May her memory be eternal.
