Obituary

It is with the heaviest heart that our family announces the passing of our dear brother Daryl Heppner. We only learned of his passing a week ago and our hearts have been shattered ever since. Daryl’s best friend Bella (pictured) was with him every day right up to the time of his passing.  I’m grateful he never knew a day without her, their bond was immeasurable. Daryl lived an extraordinary life filled with countless examples of service to others, laughter, and love for friends and family alike. How lucky were we to have him, 50 years was not enough. Rest in Peace, sweet brother. We love you.❤️💔

The family would love for you to leave condolences here on Daryl's memorial page, If you have any specific memories or stories you wish to share that are more personal, please feel free to write to Daryl's family via this email address: [email protected]

A private cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held in Daryl's memory in BC at a later date.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the great pleasure of knowing Daryl for 10 years as a neighbour. He was always so positive and smiling. Bella was a great play friend for me whether it was after a later night out or during recent years, with my son. Daryl always had lots of stories to tell and was SO easy to talk to. He was one of the first people I met when I moved in to our lovely condo. Many run-ins in the building that were brighter because of his and Bella's presence. Seeing him on way to / from somewhere always made me feel at home and like I was with family (which is far away). My son LOVED petting Bella and getting attention from Daryl, and I am forever grateful for those breaks between toddler tantrums. I am so sorry for his passing, he was a true bight Light.

I met Daryl in 2012. We worked together. He was one of those people that was immediately likeable. His kind smile, amazing laugh and approachable nature made him so easy to be around. We saw each other a couple of times a year and often spoke on the phone. Daryl talked me through many challenges. I trusted him to give sound, logical perspectives and usually with a bit of humour. Somehow, I always came away a little bit better. He was special. I have many stories I could share but one in particular stands out. My daughter was a senior in high school. One of her classes was running a fundraiser for a local family. Daryl encouraged me (and coached me through the process) to get online with him to buy tickets to donate to the cause. That was in 2013. The concert was Taylor Swift. We got the tickets. Swift may have grown in popularity but those tickets were a pretty nice addition to the silent auction even back then. And Daryl helped make that happen. He not only made my daughter happy but made a difference for a family in my community. Our family was deeply saddened by the news of Daryl’s passing and find it hard to believe he is gone. We send love and condolences to his wonderful family and all who were close to him. May he rest in peace.

I first met Daryl during my first month in Canada, and from that moment, he was a constant source of support. Whether it was sharing a pitcher of beer, helping me settle in, or just being there when I needed a friend, Daryl was instrumental in my journey to North America. His openness and kindness will be dearly missed. I hold your family and Bella in my meditation 🫶🏻

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Daryl when he lived in Prince George, BC, and was friends with my brother, Denis. We would go to social events, had fun, and reconnected years later through Facebook. He was a wonderful person.

Incredibly sorry for your loss, hope great memories of him can live on in your hearts. Daryl was a very kind, considerate man and always generous with his time. He changed my career path back for the better in 2016 and I'll be forever grateful for that . I saw him in passing at a conference, just before Christmas last year. I wish I had chatted with him a bit longer, but I'm so glad that I had that chance to, then. I'll never forget Daryl. Hope Daryl's family, who I know are very, very dear to him, keep well as they grieve his loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the great pleasure of spending a lot of time with Darryl at the dog park a couple of blocks north through the Covid shutdowns. He was always so positive and open. Bella was a great play friend for my guy too. While the dogs played, Darryl always had lots of stories to tell, especially about his family, who he obviously loved very much. My dog and I enjoyed the wonderful company for all of our trips to the park, and more recently our run-ins in the building. I am so sorry for his passing.

Dear family to Darryl and Bella. Albeit our exchanges in our building brief and casual, he showed his lovely Bella such kindness, mischievousness and commitment that long after he’d walk onwards I would feel his warmth. He was genuine. Inviting and humble. It was always a pleasure to impart the day to day. I’m very sorry for the loss of your dear Darryl.
