Obituary

Filomena Cota was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully on International Women's Day, March 8, at age 95. She was born and raised on the island of Terceira in Portugal. She married the love of her life, Manuel Cota, in 1951, and together they raised three beautiful children: Manuel, Fatima, and Lucy. When Manuel moved to Canada to build them a new life, they spent two long years writing poems and love letters to each other before she, along with her three children, immigrated to Canada to meet him. Filomena’s greatest passion was her family. Her home was filled with love, care, and generosity, and she took immense pride in the family she and Manuel built together. While she reunites with her husband, and daughter Fatima, she will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by Manuel, Lucy, her eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, as well as by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family and friends are invited to honour Filomena’s life with a visitation on

Friday, March 13, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Cardinal Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at St. Anthony’s Parish in Toronto on Saturday, March 14, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Filomena’s memory.
