In Loving Memory

Francelina Correia Belo

Francelina Belo, died of heart failure at the age of 85 at Humber River Hospital on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.    Francelina was born on March 5,1936 in Madeira, Portugal and was the youngest of three children.  She will now join her mother, Maria Rosa Fernandes, her father, Jose Correia, who called her a Minha Preta, her sister Bemvinda Rodrigues and her brother, Jose Correia in Heaven.    She married Joao Belo on May 8, 1958 at the age of 22 and immigrated to Toronto, Canada. Francelina and her husband raised two daughters, Rosa and Susan, of whom she loved and was proud of. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to four grandchildren, Raquel, David, Ryan and Christine.  She will be greatly missed by her family, daughters and son in laws (Susan/Joe), (Rosa/David), Grandchildren and their partners (Raquel/Steve), (David/Andrea), Ryan, Christine and other family members.   She enjoyed her conversations with her grandchildren: Raquel...she calls “Ola Linda”, meaning beautiful in Portuguese, David…. “My Handsome”, Ryan... with his long hair, “you look like Jesus” and Christine during their conversations…they would call each other “Crazy Genius” and then laugh and say that it is the good kind of crazy.   She started working at Tip Top Tailors, and was exceptional at finishing the garments, making her, her boss's favorite employee. Later on she took a course to learn English for two months and then went on to take her hairdressing course in 1964. She was very proud of this achievement, as she was top of her class. She was the second Portuguese hairdresser in Toronto. She opened her first salon in 1967 and closed her last salon in 1987. She was an amazing hairdresser and had many repeat clients, whom many became good friends. Later she worked at Connor Clark, setting up lunches for meetings, keeping the kitchen stocked and so much more. She retired on disability at the age of 63 from Connor Clark Private Council.  Francelina always worked hard and was always proud of the work she did. She enjoyed travelling, good food, a nice glass of wine, talking and laughing with friends. She always had a lot of faith and believed that she had many miracles in her life. As she grew older her faith grew stronger. She loved going to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, almost daily. She enjoyed her bible study and was extremely devoted.  She had many friends in her life who loved her and will miss her.   We would like to thank all her family and friends, too many to mention. We know that she loved you all. Her friends for being in her life until the end, her nephews, nieces, godchildren and grandchildren.    A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Humber Valley Hospital, Emergency and 14th floor for taking care of our beautiful mother.    She was alway ready to help her family and helped many people throughout her life. She would find strength, if she knew you needed her, she would be there.     Francelina was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed by her friends and family.   Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 29th at Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street from 4pm to 9pm and funeral service will be held on Monday, August 30th at 10am at St. Anthony's Church, 1041 Bloor Street West in Toronto and proceeding to Beechwood Cemetery at 7241 Jane Street.   Donations to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Francelina Belo will be appreciated by the family.
