Obituary

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Lucia De Medeiros Ferreira on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Beloved wife of Paulo Ferreira of 17 years. Loving mother of Sophia (12 years old) and Stella (10 years old). Daughter to Manuel De Medeiros and the late Maria Margarida Medeiros, Loving sister of Manny (Rose), Laura (Augustino), and Nelson (Tammy). Loving sister-in-law to Michael and Paula Ferreira, and daughter-in-law to Maria Rosa Ferreira and the late Antonio Ferreira. Aunt to Brandon, Nathan, Emily, and Brianna.

Lucy loved spending time with her family and extended family and her friends. She had an infectious sense of humour and was never shy to share a joke or secret recipe on social media. Lucy was a devoted volunteer to her school community, spending hours to help kids and volunteering for years, and eventually landed her dream job at the school board. Lucy enjoyed family get-togethers, trips with her husband Paul and their two daughters, and loved to laugh and always remained positive no matter the situation. She was always someone you could talk to no matter the situation.

Instead of flowers, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to support her husband Paul and their two girls: https://gofund.me/9a09cd61

I remember when Patty and I visited the family way back when, and at that time, Lucy was collecting the newly issued US quarters with the states printed on them because she wanted to have all 50 states. So I, as a smart American, gave her a handful of quarters, so proud of myself to contribute. Come to find out, not a single one had a state on the back of it. Lucy never judged or made me feel like an idiot. She was so kind. I will miss our chats where she let me vent. Any time I was ready to run away from it all, Lucy would say "come to Canada. You can sleep on my couch!" I wish I had taken her up on it sometimes. She was a light in this dark world and she will truly be missed. I'm so sorry that she is gone. Condolences to the family.

To Paul, Sophia, Stella, and all of Lucy's family and friends, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Lucy's light shone on everyone, and everyone treasured her sense of humour and positivity. The St. Rita community was fortunate that Lucy volunteered, started programs, supported school initiatives, and worked hard as a council member. She will be incredibly missed, never forgotten, and will always be a part of the St. Rita family.

Like so many in our community I was shocked and heartbroken to read the news of Lucy's passing. What a world we live in when beautiful, kind-hearted, honest, caring and compassionate people like Lucy are taken too soon. She was truly the embodiment of a beautiful human in every way. She gave so much to the community, the school system volunteering her time and energy, her family and to every person she encountered. I recall some special memories to me involving Lucy and her girls and I will treasure them. Paul, Sophia and Stella, I extend my heartfelt condolences to you all and thank you for sharing your beautiful wife and mother with all of us. May God watch over and protect her, and each of you.
