Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Natália do Rosário Vala Faustino, who passed away, surrounded by family, on Sunday July 27th at 80 years of age.

Beloved wife of Alfredo Pereira Faustino, dear mother of Madalena (Alberto), Pedro (Goretti) and Sandra (Terry) and loving grandmother of Sofia, Clara, Lauren, Noah, Isla, Terence and Seamus.

She was the daughter of José Rodrigues Vala and Maria da Conceição do Rosário and sister of José, Américo, Armindo and Arsénio.

Natália was a loving wife, mother, aunt and grandmother, who devoted her life to caring for and serving others. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was always ready to offer refreshments to anyone who came over. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time in their company.

Natália enjoyed singing in the Portuguese choir at St. Anthony’s Church and participated proudly in masses and church events, such as taking part in the Irmandade de Nossa Senhora de Fátima.

More recently, while at Kensington Gardens, Natália was known for her contagious laugh. All staff and community members described her as a happy and smiley resident who always won at Bingo.

Visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home on Friday, August 1st 2-4 pm and 5-9 pm with a prayer service at 3 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Saturday August 2nd at 10:00 am.

Special thanks to the staff at West Neighbourhood House, Lakeside Long-Term Care and Kensington Gardens for their incredible support and care.

Expressions of sympathy and honorary donations to West Neighbourhood House or Kensington Health Foundation are appreciated.

My sincerest condolence for the loss of your mom. Oh, the wonderful memories I have of her, so warm and welcoming, a great listener always quick to laugh and smile. Every time my path crossed with hers I left smiling. I can't imagine how much everyone's heart is breaking over her loss. I was only a friend, but she made me feel like family.
