Obituary

God called Maria peacefully on December 31, 2024 at the age of 95.

Maria is now reunited in Heaven by her beloved husband, Iwan (John).

Cherished by her four sons, Daniel (Christine), Maurice (Wanda), Roman (Mary), Michael (Lisa). Proud Babcha to her six grandchildren, Matthew (Fiona), Kristin (Neil), Adam (Karine), Lucas (Elysse), Hannah and Jamie. Pra-Babcha (“super-Babcha”) to her four great grandchildren Agnes and Clea, Sasha and Sofia.

Maria was born to Nestor and Nina Ororej in Hniewczycy Iwaniw, Belorus (1929 Poland).

Maria and her husband were very active in their local Ukrainian church and community in Montreal. Together, they volunteered and participated in many Ukrainian social events.

Maria’s passion was cooking and baking. Her recipes for Ukrainian dishes like perogies, cabbage rolls and legendary potato salad remain enjoyed and shared by family.

Maria’s faith in God, love and devotion to her family and her caring and generous spirit sustained her throughout her life.

We are grateful for the memories and for the love and joy that she gave.

We are deeply grateful to the staff at Ivan Franko Long Term Care Home in Etobicoke for their efforts and commitment to caregiving. A special thank you to Nurse Maria Marginean for the kindness and loving care she provided for our Mama over the past two and a half years.
