Obituary

Sofia Del Tufo, wife of the late Eugenio Del Tufo, left us on March 22, 2025. She was the fifth born child to the late Carmine DiSomma and Domenica Sparano in Lioni, Avellino, Italy on June the 12th, 1936. She was predeceased by her siblings Sofia, Salvatore (Totore), Iole, and Francesco (Ciccio).
In June of 1959, she was married and immigrated to Canada. In the early years, they had a daughter Ida, followed by a son Lindo and purchased their first home in Little Italy in Toronto. This home quickly became open to all family and friends,  where Sofia welcomed everyone with a warm smile, hug, and a table full of food. Upon leaving she would walk you out and wait on the porch waving until she couldn't see you anymore regardless the temperature outside.
She was a beloved and devoting mother, wife, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Ida (Tony), her son Lindo (Sue), her grandkids (Jessica, Matthew, Lucas, Thomas), her sister Fulvia, her nephews and nieces, and the rest of her family and friends.
A message from her grandkids:
When I think of Nonna, endless memories come to mind, but it's the simple, everyday moments that stand out the most. I can still hear the bustle of the city outside her bedroom window as I woke up, sleepy-eyed, watching her twist her waist-length hair into the tiniest of buns. She’d warm milk on the stove, add Social Tea cookies to a bowl, and it wouldn’t be complete without a little espresso mixed in.
No matter where we went, she always had treats in her bag, and there was never a time when she wasn’t trying to feed you or asking if you’d eaten. Walking into her house always felt like Christmas, in a way. The string of lights that hung up year-round in the hallway, the huge smile that would light up her face as she stuffed our hands with money, and the candy dish always full of KitKats and Coffee Crisps. A weekend at Nonna’s meant the best meals, the biggest laughs, and those scorching hot summer afternoons spent in the attic.
Her phone calls always ended the same way, with “Ciao” and “I love you” a million times before she finally hung up. Her gentle touch, her sweet laugh, and her huge heart will be forever missed.

Extending our love and heartfelt condolences for the sudden passing of a much adored grandmother, mother, sister, aunt and friend. The loss of a mother is a time which welcomes many emotions and feelings which are truly hard to grapple with. Naturally, if we take the time to truly understand how symbolic her role is in this world, it is a bond so strong, meaningful and irreplaceable that even during the greatest of storms, with the love of a mother, you know that all will settle and pass. From the initial miracle of bringing her children into the world, to the commitment of love, nurturing, guidance and wisdom; a gift and blessing in our life, that we yearn for throughout all avenues and moments. At any age, we are never ready to say goodbye and think of a moment without her. As God reminds us however, that during this tragic time, it is not goodbye rather, until we meet again. May each of you as a family gain strength and hope in celebrating the happy times, memories and the courage taken to sustain her commitment as a mother and to the world. Know that another wondrous angel is upon us, looking down on her family, children and grandchildren as a safe keeper as any wondrous mother would. Through each moment and the time forward, may God give you each the strength to move forward with patience and calm, while celebrating the memories and all that she represented and symbolized. Deepest condolences with love, forever and always!
