Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Maria Clotilde Rosa Rego. She left us peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Castleview Wychwood Towers in Toronto, Ontario at the age of 96. She is now reunited with her loving husband of over 68 years; José Cabral do Rego.

She was a loving mamãe to Humberto (Inês), Ilda (José), Joe, and Irene. She was the proud Vavó to grandchildren Tanya (André), Justin (Trish), Natasha, Nathan, Chantelle (Joseph), Marcia (Jesse), and Alana. She was also the proud Bisavó to great-grandchildren Guilherme, Thaís, Henrique, Zion, Amara, Mikayla, and Michael. Maria Clotilde was the dear sister of Maria do Carmo and predeceased by her parents Manuel da Rosa and Maria da Estrela, and her siblings Adelina, Manuel, Daniel, and Venilde.

Maria Clotilde will be remembered for her strength, cheerful laughter, sense of humour, and joyous singing. She loved being surrounded by her family for holiday gatherings and cooking delicious traditional Portuguese meals. She will always be in our hearts as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to all whose lives she touched in Canada, Açores, and the United States.

A special thank you to the staff of Castleview Wychwood Towers for their attentive care over the last few years.

My deepest condolences to you and your family during this difficult time. I will always remember the days when I would visit with my mom and see all the dolls and the old photos of the family she kept in the living room and of course the bag of candy she would put together before we left. This is my favourite memory of her that I will keep with me always. I hope that the family finds comfort in the love and support that surrounds you, and may the memories you shared with the family bring peace to your heart. I will miss Tia very much but I know she is smiling down on us.
