Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jose Daniel Ribeiro on May 5, 2026 at the age of 67, surrounded by his family.

He was predeceased by his sister Maria Paula and his father Daniel Isaias.

He is survived by his loving mother Regina, his brother Leonard and his sister Lucia.

Jose enjoyed life despite his illness, he had a big heart that sympathized with the marginalized. Jose was a gentle soul.

Jose’s musical interest included The Beatles (John Lennon was his favourite Beatle), KISS, Rolling Stones & Alice Cooper to name a few.

Jose LOVED food. KFC, McDonald’s, Pizza and Chinese food were among his favourites accompanied by his signature beverage of Diet Pepsi.

Jose looked forward to his mom’s Portuguese homemade meals which included Octopus, anything seafood, poultry, fish and meat dishes when he would come over for family visits.

Jose had such an independent spirit that he loved to go to outings with his roommates, CLT staff & caseworker to sporting events, to the zoo, museums, movies and various restaurants.

Jose was highly esteemed by friends, medical personnel and CLT staff at group homes. Jose was a shining star when he walked into the room his presence was felt by all.

One of Jose’s greatest achievements was living independently for 10 years @ Etobicoke Region. This is where he started to collect various mugs & books which were proudly displayed on shelves in his room along with other items.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Community Living Toronto where the group homes supported and cared for Jose throughout his life.

The family wants to offer deep gratitude to CAMH for their help and service over the years.

Philippians 1:3 states “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.”

God be with you till we meet again.
