Obituary
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Elsa Valiente on May 7th, 2026, on her 98th birthday, with her beloved son Carlos and dear friend Mirtha by her side. Elsa was born on May 7th, 1928, in Montevideo, Uruguay to her loving parents, Guillerma Valentini and Jose Julian Valentini. She was a cherished sister to Blanca, Julia, and Luis Alberto.
Elsa was the loving wife of Juan Carlos Valiente, with whom she built a life rooted in love and family. Together, they made the courageous journey from Uruguay to Toronto in 1972 to create a new life and brighter future for their son, Carlos Alberto Valiente. Toronto became Elsa's home for the rest of her life, where she created a beautiful space filled with strength and love for those around her.
Her son, Carlos, was the center of her life. Elsa took immense pride in the life they built together as a family. She played an instrumental role in raising her beloved granddaughter, Carly Maria Valiente, alongside her parents. She taught her the Spanish language, shared the warmth of her culture and traditions, and always provided a place of unconditional love and safety.
Though Canada became her home, Elsa always carried Uruguay in her heart. She lovingly stayed connected to her family and friends in Uruguay throughout her life, speaking with them often and sharing stories and memories of them with great affection. Her love for her roots, her family, and her lifelong friendships remained an important part of who she was.
Elsa will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her son, Carlos; her granddaughter, Carly; and by all of her family, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her kindness, warmth, and enduring love.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Te queremos mucho, Elsa.
