My deepest condolences to the Cuvalo family. My late father, Ante Misetich, was born in Grabovnik, near Ljubuski, and was a friend of George’s father Stipan. When we were kids, my father would tell us about George’s amazing boxing career. May he rest in peace.

Sincerest sympathy, George left you all a lifetime of love. I was about 10 yrs old for his big fight with Ali so I didnt enjoy the magnitude of his boxing experience at the time, but it was big around town. The man I saw many times after he hung up the gloves was a gentle giant. I was waiting for a bus in the Steakhouse on Dixie on an early cold morning, and George gave me a lift right to work. He had just dropped his son off, it was about 630am, I didnt want to get out of the car. He came to HUF gym several times to judge a fight. He spent a couple of hours to speak to my hockey team about drugs and did this many time on tour because he cared about kids. One night we spent at HUF for a boxing show with my friend Colin Fraser, Carmen Basilio and Mayor McCallion and it was like being around a campfire listening to George speak. You couldnt be in awe of George's legend very long because he relaxed everybody into a friend so quickly. His love of life and pursuit of understanding it was inspiring to me and it feels good to remember him with these small stories every time the chance comes up. We lost a great man, a man you dont forget. So sorry to have missed news of the service. Thanks, God Bless you all.

George Chuvalo was truly a man of the people and the rock that defined Canadian toughness. He is like no other fighter and I will miss him. I will never forget him holding the heavy bag for me at Bloor Street Boxing and showing me a couple of his tricks. My condolences to the family and thank you for the beautiful service. Mitchell did a great job with the eulogy. He certainly made his father proud. The turn out showed how much this man meant to the city and so many people. Forever our Canadian champ and forever in our hearts. Rest In Peace George. We will all get together again in the Upper Room.

George was a beloved friend. We attended St. Michael's College School together and did weight training in my garage when we were 14. We built a lat machine together and we sparred frequently. I was honoured to be mentioned in George's autobiography. We met again many years later and renewed our friendship and saw each other until George was no longer able. At St. Mike's, George was an excellent student, but was offered a great chance to pursue his boxing career. I am so proud to be his friend and I miss him very much. Dear George, you are now truly an angel. Condolences to the family, especially Mitch who helped me maintain contact. In Ukrainian, we say: "Vichnaya pamyat" - "Eternal Memories".

Our deepest condolences to the Chuvalo family. My father, Drago Bokulic was a friend of George's father Stipan, who roasted the pork for my parent's, Drago and Josipa's wedding in 1953. My father followed George's career, as did most of the Croatian community, and was at Maple Leaf Gardens for that fight against Ali. Whenever our paths would cross George always made a point of coming over to my father to shake his hand and say, "gospodine, kako ste"? (sir, how are you). I'll never forget how much respect George had for others. My mother Josipa is still with us and sends her condolences to Zora and all the Chuvalo's. George was a wonderful human being who lived a hard life as well as he could. God Bless him and may he rest in peace.

My Father "Muggsy" Mugford became your biggest fan, when you 1st turn pro in 56'
I was 10 years old when we listen to your Ali fight at MLG in 66'.
It was then when I was taught how to throw a one-two combination punch & to keep my guard up at all times
Over the years, we met several times during the "Lizzie's" / Christie Pits baseball reunions.
And once in 2005 at Wasaga, when my nephew (15 yrs old then) was in the ring during a 3 - rounder boxing tournament

My deepest condolences to George’s family and to everyone who loved him.
It is difficult to put into words what George meant to me. I was fortunate to call him a close friend, and that friendship gave me memories I will carry for the rest of my life. We spent countless hours together, drove more miles than I could ever begin to count, shared a lot of stories and, most importantly, had a lot of laughs along the way.
The world knew George Chuvalo as a Canadian boxing legend—a man of extraordinary toughness who stood toe-to-toe with some of the greatest fighters who ever lived. I was fortunate enough to know the man beyond the boxing ring.
George had an enormous personality and an even bigger heart. Some of my fondest memories aren’t of public appearances or the remarkable stories from his career. They’re simply of the two of us on the road, talking, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. Those are the moments I will treasure most.
George endured more tragedy in his lifetime than anyone should ever have to endure, yet he used those experiences to try to help others. I will always admire him for that.
I am going to miss my friend dearly. I’ll miss the conversations, the laughter, the stories, the miles we travelled together and simply having George in my life.
Rest peacefully, my friend. It was an honour and a privilege to know you, and an even greater privilege to call you my friend.

I first met George in the 70's at Sully's Gym where I boxed as a kid. George Jr would train at Sully's from time to time. George Sr loved going to Sully's as he was looked up to by everyone and he really enjoyed spending his time with the kids. After my father passed away at the age of 13, George stayed in touch with my self and my mother and provided support when needed.
In his passing George remains bigger than life, an inspiration to many and always fondly remembered.

After my father, Travis Sugden, passed away in 2013, those calls meant more to me than you probably ever realized. I’ve known you all my life as a friend of my dad. We met George and Lynne around 1979. Our families became fast friends and my sister and I spent a lot of time with Vanessa who was a bit older than us. Camping on Beckwith Island and often times being at their home for dinners are some of the best memories. My dad (Shaffid) and George shared the same birthday. - this seemed to create a bond. Watching them both together and thinking back to those days makes me smile. George was generous, a terrific storyteller and growing up, Lynne was like a second mom. George kept in touch reaching out to me at least 3 times per year and how he found time, I’m not sure. We lost touch and wasn’t sure how until I heard he was not doing well. But, I treasure knowing this incredible man. Mitch and Vanessa, thinking of you both during this difficult time. Your dad was one of a kind.

Today, we say goodbye to a truly remarkable man, George Chuvalo.
To the world, he was a legend—a champion, an icon, and one of Canada’s greatest fighters. But to us, he was so much more. George was a lifelong friend, a kind and genuine man, and someone we were privileged to know beyond the fame and the spotlight.
Behind the legend was a man with a big heart, a wonderful sense of humour, and a loyalty and warmth that made his friendship something truly special. The memories we shared over so many years will forever hold a place in our hearts.

To me, George was simply a voice on the phone. Our friendship didn't exist in boxing gyms, smokey arenas, or crowded restaurants.
We never shook hands, and we never shared a room. For years, our entire bond was forged through a telephone line. Yet, the man I grew to know through that receiver was just as large, just as strong, and just as deeply compassionate as the legend the public adored. We tried to meet but it just wasn't meant to be with challenges that came to be for me & George a few years later after our first conversation.
When George called, his voice carried the heavy, unmistakable gravel of a man who had lived a thousand lives. But beneath that gruff exterior was a profound warmth. Over the phone, away from the cameras and the flashing lights, George didn’t have to be the "tough guy" the world demanded he be. He could just be George. He joked a lot & randomly rang me just to tell a joke or sometimes about his fights & who he met on his travels.
When faced with a grueling battle against cancer, I met the challenge head-on. During the most difficult days of chemotherapy, I found a profound source of strength and inspiration in the pages of George's book A Fighter's Life. George's life story of enduring immense hardship both inside and outside the ring resonated deeply with me. The book became a daily companion and a testament to the power of resilience, reminding me to keep fighting, round after round, with dignity and hope. I thank him for that.
I will dearly miss him & my sincerest condolences go to all the family & all that were close to him & loved him.
This man, a legend, truly endured a tough life but saw the good in everything & remained positive until the end.

George Chuvalo helped my cousins tremendously when they needed it most. He was an incredibly generous, kind, and helpful man, and my family and I were very fortunate to have known him and his family. A true legend, for sure.
I was also lucky to have his son as both a coach and a friend throughout high school.
