So saddened to hear of the passing of Canadian Heavyweight Boxing Legend George Chuvalo, who passed away at the age of 89 on his birthday. 🕊️🥊 My heartfelt condolences go out to Coach Chuvalo (Mitch), Tom Doyle, and the entire Chuvalo family, extended family, and friends during this incredibly difficult time. George was not only a true Canadian boxing icon, but also a symbol of strength, courage, resilience, and determination. His remarkable legacy and the memories he created will continue to inspire generations to come. Truly a gentleman, humble and one of a kind human that had a heart 💛 of gold , that all who encountered him would have loved George from the moment they met him. May you find comfort in the many lives George touched and in the lasting impact he made both inside and outside the ring. To me, George was simply a voice on the phone. Our friendship didn't exist in boxing gyms, smokey arenas, or crowded restaurants. We never shook hands, and we never shared a room. For years, our entire bond was forged through a telephone line. Yet, the man I grew to know through that receiver was just as large, just as strong, and just as deeply compassionate as the legend the public adored. We tried to meet but it just wasn't meant to be with challenges that came to be for me & George a few years later after our first conversation. When George called, his voice carried the heavy, unmistakable gravel of a man who had lived a thousand lives. But beneath that gruff exterior was a profound warmth. Over the phone, away from the cameras and the flashing lights, George didn’t have to be the "tough guy" the world demanded he be. He could just be George. He joked a lot & randomly rang me just to tell a joke or sometimes about his fights & who he met on his travels. When faced with a grueling battle against cancer, I met the challenge head-on. During the most difficult days of chemotherapy, I found a profound source of strength and inspiration in the pages of George's book A Fighter's Life. George's life story of enduring immense hardship both inside and outside the ring resonated deeply with me. The book became a daily companion and a testament to the power of resilience, reminding me to keep fighting, round after round, with dignity and hope. I thank him for that. I will dearly miss him & my sincerest condolences go to all the family & all that were close to him & loved him. This man, a legend, truly endured a tough life but saw the good in everything & remained positive until the end.

It was a great honor to welcome George in my home, share meals and toasts with him and my family and friends. George had a magnetic presence. He is truly unforgettable. It was the most special experience to see the connection and the love between George and Mitch. Their jokes, their voices singing together, their beautiful acceptance of and affection for each other. This is truly unforgettable, too.

My sincere condolences. I am 70 yrs old and remember Mr. Chuvalo very well. Mr. Chuvalo was a true champion in and out of the ring.

George Chuvalo helped my cousins tremendously when they needed it most. He was an incredibly generous, kind, and helpful man, and my family and I were very fortunate to have known him and his family. A true legend, for sure. I was also lucky to have his son as both a coach and a friend throughout high school. My deepest condolences go out to the entire Chuvalo family. Wishing you all strength during this very difficult time. May he rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Mitch, Vanessa and the rest of the family. You know how much I loved George, and I cherish every minute of our 40-year friendship. His strength, compassion and huge heart left an indelible impression on everyone he met. I feel very blessed to have had him in my life, and I will miss him forever.

My deepest condolences to the family I have had the pleasure of meeting George more then one occasion what a heart of gold my oldest children got to meet him and my youngest met him many times as her dad was also a boxer Im so thankful to George for attending high schools and helping so many teenagers including my youngest daughter i will never forget how he helped her thank you so much you will forever be in our hearts and never forgotten RIP George

Deepest thoughts to the Chuvalo family. I will cherish forever, the great visits, meals, and laughter with George. Beyond his legendary boxing career, his message of love to kids re the evils of drugs saved more lives than we will ever know. A gifted man that shared himself freely. A numerical genius. I’m assuming my deepest condolences to all the family. Bill And and I had the pleasure of being in George’s company many times with our dear friends, Diane and Anne Marie Chuvalo. He was such a gentle soul and had such a sense of humor. It was a pleasure to be around him. He will be sadly missed.. May you rest in peace George🩷🙏🩷

Always loved seeing his smiling face around the neighborhood, out for breakfast at 401 Diner or Wallys. His welcoming personality loved his life experiences and having him tell the story that only he could tell. Kind soul, friendly as can be. Rest in peace go be with your family.
