Obituary

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joao Joaquim Faria on October 25, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born and raised in Pico da Pedra, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, Joao proudly served in the Portuguese military before immigrating to Toronto, Canada. In 1966 he married the love of his life, Alda, whom he had met in Portugal. Together, they began their married life in Toronto, where Joao worked in the construction industry and, through his dedication and hard work, helped build a loving home and future for their family. On October 8, 2026, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, a remarkable milestone reflecting six decades of marriage and shared memories.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Joao was deeply committed to his family. He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Alda; his children, Zulmira (Rocco), Jane (Joseph), and Johnny (Suzanne); and his beloved daughter, Nancy, who predeceased him. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Adriana, Nicole (Alex), Jordan, Joseph, Megan, and Isabella; and one great-granddaughter, Victoria.

Joao was an exceptionally hardworking man who devoted much of his life to providing for his family. He rarely took time off or enjoyed vacations, always placing the needs of his loved ones before his own. His dedication and sacrifices were a testament to his deep love for his family and the values by which he lived. He was an outgoing man with a wonderful sense of humour and a genuine appreciation for the company of others. He took great pleasure in gardening, cooking with his wife, and making his own homemade wine, a tradition he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. Music and family celebrations brought him much happiness, especially the opportunity to dance with Alda and his children at family weddings and celebrations. After raising their family in Toronto and Brampton, Joao and Alda eventually retired to Wasaga Beach, where he cherished spending time with loved ones and watching his grandchildren grow. His warmth, humour, and devotion to those he loved will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Joao leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, cherished memories, and a family who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

You will always be our guiding light, forever loved, cherished, and remembered.

May you rest in eternal peace.
