Obituary

Ilczenko, Alexander: Passed away suddenly in Toronto on Monday, February 19, 2007 at the age of 83. Dear son of the late Hordiy and Xenia Ilczenko. Beloved husband of Olga (nee Tkachenko-Mucha). Loving father of Alexander Ilchenko and his wife Ieva Osis. Dear brother of Vasily and his wife Nadia and dear uncle of Natasha Ivaneva and husband Volodymyr and children Olia and Sascha, of Odessa, Ukraine. Lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Nina Bulat, and his niece Helen Bulat-Matossian and husband Garbis, and children Shahan and Tamara. Alexander was born on July 15, 1923 in Ukraine, and immigrated to Canada in 1948. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1955. Alexander achieved his accounting designation as a Registered Industrial Accountant, earning a gold medal for having the highest standing in Canada. He was employed by CIL Industries and later the Federal Government in Ottawa, retiring in 1989. Alexander was an active parishioner of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Ottawa. His passion was the religious and folk music of his native land, which led to many happy years as a member of the church choir and later as the director. Resting at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street (near Dundas) on Thursday from 6-9 pm and Friday 2-4 and 6-9 pm. Funeral service on Saturday 11:45 am at St. Volodymyr Cathedral, 406 Bathurst Street, Toronto. Interment at St. Volodymyr Cemetery, Oakville. Panachida on Friday 7:30 pm. In memory of Alexander's life, donations to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Ottawa would be appreciated by his family. "
