Obituary
Anthony Hugh (Tony) Cassidy b. May 9, 1942 in Cobalt, ON., d. December 2, 2014, peacefully at the Kensington Hospice in Toronto. Tony was loved by all who knew him. In the 1960s, he was an early systems designer on mainframe computers at the University of Toronto and at Canadian Tire. He later worked as a consultant and was active in GUIDE, an influential IBM Users group until his career was interrupted by a serious stroke in 1992. He was predeceased by his wife Julie (Landriau) Cassidy in 2010. We have circled and circled till we have arrived home again –we two have; We have voided all but freedom, and all but our own joy. -Walt Whitman Tony and Julie were active in the Annex Residents’ Association, and both worked on genealogy of their respective families, Julie’s dating back to the 1700s in Quebec, and Tony’s to the 1820s in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Tony is survived by his siblings, Robert Cassidy, Terence Cassidy, Patricia Ahern, and David Cassidy, and by numerous nephews and nieces on both the Cassidy and Landriau sides. Particular support to Tony in his final years was provided by Julie’s nephews, Greg and Michael Martyn. Visitation will be held at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street, Toronto, on Friday December 5th, 2014 between 6:00pm and 9:00pm. A funeral service will be held in the Cardinal Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday December 6th, 2014 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Toronto Western Hospital for their care of Tony, and the Kensington Hospice for their provision of compassion and care in his final days.
