Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our wonderful father Augusto Barbosa De Resendes of Toronto

He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Kensington Hospice on Wednesday June 24, 2026 @12:45pm at age of 92. (One day before his predeceased son’s 61st birthday)

Beloved husband of Maria da Gloria. Predeceased firstborn son Antonio. Cherished father of Helen (David), Gilberto (Zandra) and Danny. Loving grandfather of Angelina and Daniel

Predeceased by his brothers Urbano (Oligia), Valdemiro (Armenia)

Missed by many family and friends in Canada, Azores, Brazil, England and USA

Augusto was born on March 7, 1934 in Lomba da Fazenda, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Azores to Manuel Jacinto Resendes and Irena Barbosa. He was youngest of 3 children.

He immigrated to Toronto at age:24 ( 1958) and lived at 43 Ulster St with many other single men and worked many different jobs. He returned to Azores to marry his beautiful wife ( Gloria) of 63 years on January 20,1963. Then he came back to Toronto and sponsored her. She arrived in Toronto on August 24,1964 and they embarked upon a new life together and started their own family.

Dad always said at our family get-togethers in his Azorean English accent  “I love to have the family to be together”

Thank you Dad for your sacrifices, life lessons, family stories, hardwork, faith, friendship, engineering mind, selflessness, laughter, kindness, honesty, fairness, humbleness, being a supportive husband and most of all unconditional love of your friends, neighbours and whole family.

Love you Dad until we meet again!

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 5th at the Cardinal Funeral Homes (366 Bathurst Street, Toronto) from 2pm - 4pm & 6pm - 9pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 6th at 9:45am at St. Agnes's Parish (15 Grace Street, Toronto) with interment to follow at Prospect Cemetery - Mausoleum of the Sacred Souls.

During our dads’ time together in the hospital, we became more than just families sharing the same space—we formed a special bond through such a difficult journey. I will always be grateful for the kindness, support, and friendship we shared during that time. I truly hope our dads are now together again, free from pain and at peace.
