Obituary

It is with mixed emotions we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Benjamin Chmilenko, in his 96th year. He left us peacefully Sunday, April 1, 2018, after complications from a brief battle with the flu, at his home, surrounded by family.
Born April 11, 1922, in Ukraine, he came to Canada in 1949, after the Second World War with his wife, to start a new life in a country he grew to love dearly.  He embraced Canada and everything it had to offer and was eternally grateful for the life he made here.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Katya, his daughter Vera, his son Victor (Sheona), his grandsons Luke (Christina), Andy and Mykolai.  Our beloved family in Ukraine will also miss him dearly, Benjamin was pre-deceased by his eldest child, son Genia (Natasha), and survived by his grandchildren Andriy, Olexy (Vita) and his great-grandaughter Sophika.
Our love to you our gentle, wonderful, Tato and Dido, you will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in his name to the Holodomor Memorial Project (The Artificial Famine imposed by Stalin) which is to be set on the Toronto Exhibition Grounds. Cards will be provided at the memorial and at the funeral.

There is an opinion that the name determines the fate. The name Benjamin for the place where he was born was unusual. The life is fully confirm that. His way was uncredible. He survived in very difficult years and created two wonderful families on two continents. Family in Ukraine is very mourning and send this words Хай земля буде пухом та Господь дарує Царство Небесне.
