Honouring Curtis’ Legacy
It is with the deepest sorrow that we share the news of our beloved Curtis Deprez’s passing on Friday, July 3.
There are some people who make the world a little kinder simply by being in it. Curtis was one of those people. He was the kind of person everyone hoped to have in their corner. Loyal beyond measure, thoughtful, incredibly intelligent, and endlessly resourceful, Curtis showed up for the people he loved without hesitation. Whether you needed advice, a helping hand, or simply someone to listen without judgment, he was there.
His humour was unmistakable - quick-witted, a little sassy, and often perfectly timed to make you laugh when you needed it most. He was honest, genuine, and wore his heart on his sleeve.
Throughout his life, Curtis became a caregiver in every sense of the word. Family, friends, colleagues – if you were fortunate enough to know him, you knew you could count on him. He was a trusted mentor, a loyal friend, and someone whose kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
But above all else, Curtis was a devoted father. His son, Dan, was his greatest joy, his greatest purpose, and unquestionably his greatest legacy.
Every decision Curtis made, every sacrifice he accepted, every obstacle he overcame, and every plan he made for the future was rooted in one purpose: giving his son every opportunity, every adventure, and every reason to believe the world was full of possibility. He devoted himself to ensuring Dan had the best life he could imagine. Being Dan's dad wasn't simply something Curtis did – it was the role he treasured most.
Curtis passed away peacefully in his sleep, leaving behind an unimaginable loss for all of us who loved him.
In true Curtis fashion, he didn't want a traditional funeral. Instead, we will come together in the weeks ahead to celebrate his life with gatherings in both Toronto and Manitoba. We will share more details as plans are finalized.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who has reached out with messages of love, support, and remembrance over the past few days. Your kindness has been a source of comfort during this incredibly difficult time.
Many of you have asked how you can support Dan during this difficult time. The truth is, Curtis did what Curtis always did. He planned. He worked hard. He provided for Dan, just as he always intended to. Dan is surrounded by the love of his family in Toronto and Manitoba, and by a community of friends who will continue to stand fiercely beside him.
While nothing can replace the boundless love, guidance, and unwavering support Curtis gave his son, we can come together to honour that love.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, we've created this fund to invest in Dan's future. Whether it supports his education, meaningful experiences, or opportunities that help shape the remarkable young man Curtis knew he would become. https://www.gofundme.com/f/curtis-deprez
Curtis' story isn’t ending. Together, with the love of his family, friends, and the remarkable community Curtis built around him, we will help write the chapters still to come - building on the legacy of a father who loved his son beyond measure.
To honour Curtis, we will turn this immense pain into determination. This unimaginable sorrow into action. We'll continue to show up for each other and for Dan with the same steadfastness, courage, and love that Curtis showed all of us.
I know Dan and I won't be alone.
Because that's what Curtis taught us.
He taught us that love is something you do.
He taught us that when life asks something of you, you step forward.
He taught us that momentum matters.
So let's keep moving.
Let's carry Curtis forward the way he carried so many of us.
Let's continue writing Dan's story together.
Thank you for helping honour an extraordinary man, an exceptional father, and a legacy that will continue for generations to come.
With love,
Jorge
