My deepest condolences to the Furfaro family. Aside from family, I have not had such a long and close relationship with anyone as I had with Domenic. I met Domenic or Furf as we affectionately called him when we were both teenagers and immediately, I knew he was different. Even at that age Furf was smarter, more sensitive, and saw the world differently than my other friends. He was a talented musician and taught me to love some of the greats including Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Billy Bragg, and our favorite entertainer Bruce Springsteen. I’ll not forget all the Springsteen concerts we enjoyed together. Over the years we grew very close. Domenic was one of the most intelligent and well-informed people I've ever met but also the humblest. I could confide in him and he would give me a clear perspective on things. He truly understood me well and the bond between Domenic my cousin Damian and myself was unbreakable. I loved Domenic with all my heart, I loved his sense of humor, his wit his modesty, and loyalty. Domenic left us essentially years ago. His spirit faded slowly into the abyss. He was his own harsh critic and worst enemy, those that loved him could not save him from himself. Though he was ill and I could not be with him, try as I might, there was hope that he would come back but now that hope has been extinguished like a candle that is snuffed out. If Domenic were here, he would probably improve my simile if I asked him as he was always a fine writer. I learned quickly not to challenge his political views, to do so was to risk a barrage of lengthy emails. He taught me to look beyond the headlines and use quality sources for information. I have sorely missed his company these past few years and now will cherish our lifetime of memories even more. We shared so much together both good and bad. What a wonderful, compassionate, loving soul he was. Goodbye, my old friend, I’m sorry I could not do more to help you. I take solace now in knowing that you finally found peace.
