Jose Antonio Da Estrela Medeiros

Passed away at Divino Espirito Santo Hospital on September 15th in his 65th year after a long illness borne with great courage. Jose Antonio Da Estrela Medeiros was the beloved husband of Alda Lopes and cherished father to Tanya Pereira (Carlos), Christopher (Iliana), Joshua (Andre), Joseph (Silvia) and Andrew (Alessandra). Proud Vovo of Ethan, Mikaela, Makenzie, Ivy, Nina, Mylah, Jonathan, Leo and Mateo. Jose is survived by his dear mother Fernandina Amaral Da Estrela as well as his 6 siblings. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Predeceased by his loving father Altino Luis De Medeiros.

Jose was born in Toronto in 1961 and it was here that he met Alda in 1980. They were married in the Azores in 1981 and then returned to Toronto where they started their life together and raised their young family. Jose also enjoyed spending time in the Azores every year. This past summer he and Alda were able to build new memories with some of his grandchildren, even in the midst of his illness. Jose was a hard-working family man with an infectious smile and a generous spirit. He worked in the seafood industry and was fondly referred to as “The Fish Man.” Over many years of this work, Jose developed a reputation for making connections and helping others. Jose’s greatest legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren who carry forward his boundless love, strength and values.

Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 4 to 9 pm at Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street, Toronto. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday September 28, 2026,  at 9:45 am St. Mary’s Church, 588 Adelaide St. W, Toronto. Burial to follow at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery, 305 Erskine Ave.
