Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Manuel Correia, who passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at the age of 86. Born in Ribeirinha, São Miguel, in the Açores of Portugal in 1938, Manuel lived a full and meaningful life marked by hard work, unwavering love for his family, and deep pride in his heritage and faith. He immigrated to Canada in pursuit of a better future, bringing with him the values of resilience, humility, and devotion that shaped the lives of those around him. He spent most of his early days in Canada as a iron worker “rodman”, leaving his mark on countless amusement parks, stadiums, infrastructure, and residential and commercial buildings in Toronto and the surrounding area. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Olivia, his cherished children, David (Vicky), Lucy (Victor), Gorete, and Elizabeth (Luis), adored grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob (Darlene), Scott, Jenessa (Nicholas), Ariel, and Brandan, and the joy of his last months—a great-grandchild, John Michael. Manuel will be remembered for his super human strength, contagious smile, and the stories he told—each one a thread connecting generations. He found joy in life's simple pleasures: tending to his garden, sharing meals with family and making wine. His presence was a steady and strong comfort, and his legacy of love will continue to live on in each of us. The family would like to thank all those who supported him in his final days. A funeral service will be held at Cardinal Funeral Homes on Sunday, June 1st, followed by a burial at Prospect Cemetery on Monday, June 2nd. All who knew and loved Manuel are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Princess Margaret Foundation in his memory. Rest in peace, Avô. You will forever be in our hearts.

My condolences again, to the whole family. Your Dad was the gentle giant of my childhood. I remember when I would go to your house how welcoming your parents were and still remember the ravioli your mom would make for me to eat and then I would ask my mom to make it, which lend to her calling your mom to find out what I was talking about. I will miss our hello's as I walked by your house while he trimmed the bushes and watered his plants. I'm sure he's up there in heaven having a glass of wine with my Dad and talking soccer.
