Obituary

Nelson Figueiredo, age 56, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at the Mena Regional Health System in Mena, Arkansas. He was born on Tuesday, May 28, 1968 in Toronto, Canada to Jose Batista and Olinda Figueiredo. Nelson was a passionate soul who embraced life with humor and care. He had a special way with children and brought laughter wherever he went. A devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Mena, he cherished his church family and actively participated in its community. Nelson loved watching football and basketball with friends, reminiscing about his days playing hockey, and engaging in a lively fantasy football league. Known affectionately as "Figs" by his friends, he took immense pride in cultivating his fig trees. Nelson was a devoted husband to Mariana (Lumy), a generous and loving friend, and a remarkably intelligent man who always stayed ahead of the curve. He moved to Mena with his wife, Mariana (Lumy), in 2018. He never thought he would enjoy the country life, but after moving he was so happy, and loved the people in his new home. Nelson loved his family with all his heart and his warmth, kindness and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Mariana (Lumy) Morrow of Mena; his parents, Jose and Olinda Figueiredo of Innisfil, Ontario; his brother and sister in law, Manny and Elizabeth Figueiredo of Innisfil, Ontario; his sister and brother in law, Julie Figueiredo and Wayne Grimmer of Innisfil, Canada; nephew and nieces, Katie Cook, Stephanie Martins, Nicole Figueiredo, and Jesse Figueiredo; great nephews, Jett, Nathan, Knox, Jayden, Joshua and a host of other relatives and friends.
