Obituary
Surrounded by his loving family, Paulo Melo Furtado passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 in his 92nd year.
Paulo is now reunited with his late wife, Maria Da Conceição, whom he was happily married for 45 years. He is survived by his loving children, Conceição (José), Paulina (late Mario), Frank (Mary), Mario (Maria), Madalena (Martin), Paul (Ana), Dennis (Madalena), Luis (Carmen), Leonardo (Ana), Victor (Suzana) and Ricardo (Paula). Proud grandfather to 28 grandchildren and dear great-grandfather to 14 great-grandchildren.
Born in 1929, in Ribeira Quente, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal, he was a self-employed cobbler and an active participant in his community. He volunteered in many aspects of his local catholic church, São Paulo, including as the parish organist. Paulo was recognized as the first Scout Leader in Ribeira Quente and also as a founding member of the branch. He lived his life passionately including his love for music and nature which resulted in this love being shared by his children. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1972 where he was employed as a groundskeeper until his retirement. His most cherished times were family gatherings, particularly at Christmas and the annual summer family picnics. He valued his family immeasurably and will always be remembered as a great family man.
Paulo will also be sadly missed by his extended family and friends.
