Obituary

RICK SCOTT-WOOD January 9, 1945 to October 6, 2013. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rick of Wards Island, Toronto. Rick, beloved husband of Jennifer for 29 years and loving father of Kim (Emily) and Taylor. Brother-in-law of Jan Scott-Wood and Mike Stein. Son-in-law of Ruth Stein. Uncle of Brenda (Mark) and Russell. Predeceased by his brothers Randy, Kim and Kirk and his parents Ruth and Fred ‘Pappy’. Rick retired from the TTC after 20 years and had enjoyed the past eleven years of retirement listening to his oldies music, watching old movies and baseball and most of all, his walks with his dogs along Wards Beach with a large coffee in hand and the sports section. Everyone is invited to join the family at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street (North of Dundas) to share their memories and love for Rick on Thursday from 2 -4 & 7 – 9 pm. A service celebrating Rick’s life will be held in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Friday at 11 am. In keeping with Rick’s personality, dress attire should not be worn. Instead, please dust off your comfortable clothes, old baseball jerseys, Yankees and Blue Jays especially, and wear them proudly. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.cardinalfuneralhomes.com.

Condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to Rick's family and friends. I used to work as a Clerk at Russell Division and I can remember Rick's winter dashes to report in to work when the ferry from Ward's Island was late due to the weather. Rick will be missed by all who knew him. Annie Stokell (Retired)

Dear Jennifer how sad I was to see a familiar name in the Newspaper today, not being too sure if it was your family I contacted Trish and she confirmed it was your husband Rick. Words can never fully express feelings at these times. Remember your wonderful lifetime together. I didn't personally know Rick but I do know and remember you Jennifer and how silly we were when we worked together. I hope those memories help to bring a smile and let you know that I care. I will be thinking of you and your family, with much love, Pat Gregoire.

Jenn, our thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. One of our memories with Rick (aka Warren) was our trip to Ottawa, it always brings a smile.

To my friend Jennifer, who has been there for me through good times at Bell, and my worst time, recently. If Evelyn was here, she would join me in passing our condolences at your loss. I know from recent experience the grief that you are - and will - go through. We will be reminded every day of the one we love, and we will never forget them. They are with us, even though they are in another - hopefully better - place.

I played many years of baseball with Rick, but the first year I played baseball on the Island was the best. Rick was the pitcher and with his controversial 'hop-skip-and-jump' pitching style and his sliding into first base, he led us to the championship. I remember one senior masquerade where Rick and two others stood in front of the judges stand and while giving the ‘thumbs up’ sang the ‘We Drink Carling Red Cap’ song, then arguing all night that they should have won. I will miss Rick and have only the best memories of him. My deepest sympathies go to his family and friends. The Island has lost another icon.
