Obituary

Ron Collins, after a courageous hard fought battle, in his 77th year, passed away peacefully at Toronto General Hospital. Predeceased by ex-wife and forever friend Beverly Collins nee Goose and his parents Reta Migwans and Charlie Collins, and sisters Vickie and Margie.

Loving and proud father to son Ron (Christine), daughter Sandra and step-son Corey (Amanda). Loving Grandfather to Michelle and Tara. Step-Grandfather to Makya and Aiyana. Loving Great Grandfather to Icey and Tessa. Beloved Brother to Betty Anne, Dorothy, Robert, Daniel, Tim and Elsie. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Ron loved his retirement life at Wigwamen Terrace. Always checking in on his neighbours well-beings and safety. Loved socializing in and around the Native Canadian Centre. Could be found riding his bike all over Toronto. Loved playing Bingo at Delta and Dolphin. Always had to be home to watch his favorite soap the Y & R and watching and talking about wrestling. But his favorite part of life was enjoying his time with his family at many functions. He will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers a donation to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated.

Today we laid you to rest. I know you are proud to be with Mom and Shomis and Uncle. I will grieve you for a while more but soon I know I will look back and smile because there was so much joy in having you here. I know you tired and had to leave. Your memory will live on in us all. You and mom gave me life and with that life brought your granddaughter Michelle and great granddaughter Icey. So your memory will live on in those who cherished your love. You were so proud of your family and today dad we did you proud. I will miss you forever. Safe travels in your journey ahead dad. Till we meet again. Your proud son. Ron Collins Jr (Chuck)

Ron Collins was a good kind gentle giving man. He and my mom married when I was only 2 years old. Ron immediately became my Dad and from that day forward he loved me unconditionally. He and I developed a very special bond. We’d meet up at the many Pow Wows, I’d visit him at his residence and we’d sit outside enjoying one another’s company. Anytime someone he knew walked by, he’d happily introduce me as his daughter He loved to socialize, play bingo and watch his favourite show the Y&R. He’d gladly update me on the program although he knew I never watched it My Dads best times though were spent with his Family. We would gather usually at my place for special occasions and he’d always be the first to arrive. My dad was a great man, with a gentle soul. He will forever hold a special place in my heart. I love him dearly and I’m really going to miss him.

My heart goes out to the family for the loss of a good man. I hope during this time of Sorrow we can try and focus on celebrating a man's life rather than the death. I did not know Ron very well but I've seen him through my whole life in many different places. He has a very distinct look and stand out in the crowd. Any good way of course. My mom who is also passed away I believe knew him very well. So to the family I'm sorry for your lost and to everyone who knows Ron knows we lost a good person. Rest in peace Ron and I hope the afterlife treats you well enjoy the spirit world my Native brother.
