Obituary
With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Serguei Cheliapine on January 28, 2025. He is survived by the love of his life Marina Cheliapina (married for over 40 years), his beloved daughter Anna O'Leary (Geoff O’Leary), his grandchildren Harper and Kinsley, and his mother Valentina Cheliapina (father Anatoly Cheliapine predeceased).
Serguei was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on October 31,1952, and lived an incredible life, worthy of a novel. He worked as a diplomat, which took him around the world, living at one point in Nigeria. In 1993, he left his civil servant position to explore his entrepreneurial dreams and settle his family in Canada. Serguei always kept his adventurous spirit alive and truly enjoyed watching his grandchildren explore their world. If only they could have traveled to foreign countries with grandpa. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Please join us in saying our final goodbyes to Serguei Cheliapine on Saturday February 8, 2025. The service will take place at both the Cardinal Funeral Home and Christ the Saviour Cathedral. We invite you to join us at the funeral home at 11:30 am, followed immediately by a procession to the Cathedral for an Orthodox funeral service. We ask that you please wear dark attire; women typically wear a scarf covering their head to the Orthodox church service.
Following his funeral service, the O'Leary family welcome you to join them at their home for a reception.
