STEFAN (STEVE) JAKYMIWMarch 14, 1946 - May 15, 2008
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law and friend on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the age of 62. Stefan was born in Regensburg, Germany. He grew up in Toronto and attended McMaster University where he graduated with a business degree. Steve enjoyed a successful 30 year career with TransCanada Pipelines, holding an executive vice-president position, Regulatory Affairs, as well as vice-president of Express Pipelines. The last 17 years, while living in Calgary, he was very active in the Ukrainian Community and Church holding various positions as President of UCPBA, Ukr. Television program ?Echoes of Ukraine? and the church council of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Stefan was chairman of the fund raising committee that helped establish the monument commemorating the millions of victims who lost their lives to the man-made Great Famine in Ukraine. He always enjoyed being with family and friends, golfing, skiing and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his wife Anne, children Andrew (Lourdes), Yara (Lyle), sister Maria (Paul) and his mother Katherine. He was predeceased by his father, Michael.
Friends will be received at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St. (east of Keele) on Tuesday, May 20th from 6-9 p.m. Panakhyda will be held that evening at 7:00 pm. Funeral services commencing on Wednesday, May 21st at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass at St. Josaphat?s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral (143 Franklin Ave.) at 10am. Interment will follow at Beechwood Cemetery (Jane and Steeles). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
